Air conditioning is an essential part of any interior space. Throughout our years of fitting out warehouses, offices, apartments and even entire buildings, we’ve answered a lot of ventilation FAQs - so we thought it’d be helpful to break down the mostly commonly asked and important questions to help your building maintain its perfect temperature.

Your aircon questions, answered.
WHAT IS A INVERTER?
Most air conditioning systems these days are of inverter type. Inverter air conditioners use a variable frequency drive to control the speed of the motor and in turn, the compressor. When the cooling demand is met the compressor will slow down, in return reducing running costs.
Inverter air conditioners reach the desired room temperature faster, and then consistently adjust to maintain perfect comfort. Inverter air conditioners are more economical to operate and quieter to run than fixed speed units. The only downside? They need to be correctly sized.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY AIR CONDITIONER FILTER?
This depends on the environment or air purity - but generally speaking, once a season is recommended for a normal domestic environment. In a commercial setting, it’s recommended to have your air conditioner filter cleaned once every month by a commercial mechanical services provider.
WHAT IS REVERSE CYCLE AIR CONDITIONING?
Reverse cycle means the air conditioning system can both cool and heat your home or business. They are a very efficient and economical way of heating and cooling.
WHAT IS THE ARC TICK?
The Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) administers refrigerant handling licences and refrigeration trading authorisations to air conditioning companies on behalf of the Australian Government. Their aim is to help protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from refrigerants. As a qualified commercial mechanical service company, we are an authorised ARC business.
DOES MY AIR CONDITIONER EVER NEED RE-GASSING?
Re-gassing an air conditioner will never be necessary if it is installed correctly.
However, if the pipe connections are not ‘flared’ (a type of compression fitting) properly or tightened to the correct torque, or if the pipes themselves degrade over time for some unforeseen reason, then they may leak, which is the most common cause of needing to re-gas an air conditioner.
Terms such as ‘stale gas’ or ‘expired gas’ are not something that occurs in air conditioning units. If there is a gas leak in your air conditioning system it should be inspected by a qualified commercial mechanical services contractor.
WHY IS WAREHOUSE VENTILATION IMPORTANT?
When a warehouse is not properly ventilated it becomes stuffy, and without good air circulation, the humidity levels and temperature will rise. This is an issue as excess heat or cold is detrimental to workers and equipment. The area can become unhealthy and dangerous for workers, especially if toxic fumes build up.
